Congress Considers Budget Vote to Avoid Another Shutdown

Senate leaders agreed on a deal to fund the government for two more years, raise the debt limit, and delay fears of more government shutdowns. The deal was reached amongst Senate leaders Mitch McConnell and Chuck Schumer and adds four more years of funding to the CHIP program beyond the six previously agreed upon. It also includes additional funding for the opioid crisis, veterans health, and mental health.

The Senate is expected to vote on this budget deal today and the House will follow. House passage is not certain, though, given House Democrats opposed to the lack of a fix to DACA.
