HHS Announces Next Tranche of Provider Relief Funds for Safety Net and Specialty Rural Hospitals

Late Friday, HHS announced that an additional $4 billion would be disbursed from the Provider Relief Funds to safety net and to specialty rural hospitals, urban hospitals with certain rural Medicare designations, and hospitals in small metropolitan areas. Officials had been hinting all week that another distribution was coming sometime last week, many speculated that it would be to Medicaid-heavy and hot spot providers, instead $3 billion will be sent to 215 safety net hospitals and $1 billion will go to 500 rural and some small suburban hospitals.  The names of the grant recipients have not yet been released.  HHS also announced that it  will be opening the provider portal to allow dentists to apply for relief through the fund.
