Iowa Approves Legislation Expanding Telehealth

The Iowa Senate unanimously approved a bill yesterday to expand telemedicine throughout the state. Representatives of rural districts were particularly eager for this legislation to pass as they see the immediate relief it can bring their home communities, especially when in need of specialty care. Governor Reynolds is expected to sign the bill.

“Increasing coverage of telehealth, sometimes referred to as telemedicine, would increase access to health care, especially in specialty areas — such as psychiatry — backers said, and numerous services would become available to Iowans regardless of address if insurers provide the same reimbursement whether care is delivered face-to-face or via video conferencing.”
