Reimbursement for Emergency Treatment of Vets Expanded

Reimbursement for Emergency Treatment of Vets Expanded

The Department of Veterans Affairs announced new regulations today expanding reasonable costs for Veterans seeking emergency care outside of the VA system. Given the VA’s recent actions to remedy delayed payments to community providers, the expansion of emergency benefits is welcomed additional support for our Veterans seeking emergent care close to home.
“VA will begin processing claims for reimbursement of reasonable costs that were only partially paid by the Veteran’s other health insurance (OHI). Those costs may include hospital charges, professional fees and emergency transportation, such as ambulances.”
