Senator Questions Anthem on ED Policy

Senator Claire McCaskill (D-MO) has requested internal documents from Anthem in regards to their policy denying emergency department treatment retroactively. Anthem has seemingly changed their ED reimbursement policy recently, as hospitals have reported a rapid increase in denials. Anthem has told hospitals that patients who received care in their ED should have been seen in an urgent care setting instead, however, in urgent care is not an option in the majority of rural areas.
