VA Secretary Urges Congress for Vets Choice Solution by 2018

VA Secretary David Shulkin released a statement yesterday urging Congress to pass legislation before the end of 2017, when funding for programs which allow veterans to receive health care in their communities, will run out. These programs received a temporary extension in funding in August of 2017 until the House and Senate Veterans Affairs Committees could agree on permanent solutions. Now that 2018 is approaching, the VA Secretary is urging both the House and Senate Committees to pass legislation making these programs permanent so veterans do not see a lapse in care.
Senate Veterans Affairs Committee Charman Isakson then asked the Senate to put his committee’s bill, Caring for Our Veterans Act of 2017, to a vote before Congress breaks for the year.
